Limelight Custom '72 PJ Precision Bass 3 Colour Sunburst (w/Upgrades!)

Up for sale is a superb Limelight ‘72 PJ Precision Bass in a classic 3 Colour Sunburst finish, presented in excellent condition and built with a clear nod to a modified early-1970s workhorse. Limelight have earned a strong reputation for their relic work and vintage-inspired builds, and this example captures the look, feel and response of a well-played original while incorporating carefully chosen modern upgrades.

The two-piece Alder body was custom-made by 42nd Street guitars, based in Coleford, UK. The thin skin sunburst finish is Nitro. Based on a 1972 Precision Bass platform, this instrument features a PJ configuration that expands its tonal range far beyond a traditional single-pickup setup. 

It is loaded with a set of EMG Geezer Butler signature pickups, delivering a powerful, articulate voice that retains vintage character while offering increased clarity and punch. The split-coil Precision pickup provides the expected depth and authority, while the added Jazz-style bridge pickup brings definition and bite, making this a highly versatile bass suited to everything from classic rock to more modern, driven tones.

The bass is fitted with a Babicz bridge, a high-performance upgrade that enhances sustain, tuning stability and overall resonance. It complements the instrument well, providing a solid and responsive feel under the fingers without compromising the vintage aesthetic.

In terms of feel, the bass strikes a great balance between familiarity and refinement. The neck is comfortable and substantial without being overly heavy, offering an easy playing experience across the board. It has that broken-in character you’d expect from a well-loved early-’70s instrument, with a lively acoustic response that translates beautifully when amplified.

Condition-wise, the bass is excellent, with any wear in keeping with Limelight’s vintage-inspired approach. It presents as a carefully aged instrument rather than one that has seen neglect, and everything functions exactly as it should.
