1964 Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass β Sunburst β Original Vintage Example
Just in is this beautiful and highly original 1964 Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass in its classic Sunburst finish.
Few basses are as instantly recognisable as the Hofner 500/1. Famously associated with Paul McCartney and the British Invasion era, the Violin Bass remains one of the most iconic instruments ever produced. Lightweight, comfortable and effortlessly playable, it delivers the warm, woody and unmistakably distinctive tone that has made it a favourite of players and collectors alike for over sixty years.
This particular example is presented in remarkable original condition for its age. The bass retains its original electronics, with potentiometer codes dating to 1963, consistent with early 1964 production. The original hardware is in excellent condition, including the machine heads, control panel and tailpiece. The frets show very little wear and the instrument plays exceptionally well with a comfortable action throughout the neck.
The bass has clearly been well cared for throughout its life and remains structurally excellent, with no breaks, repairs or modifications. Cosmetically there are a handful of minor chips, dings and signs of honest use as you would expect from a genuine vintage instrument of this age, but nothing that detracts from its outstanding overall presentation.
