A superb example of a Gibson Custom Shop ’68 Les Paul Custom from a highly regarded period of production. Finished in Ebony with a beautifully figured flame maple top, this is a genuine player’s instrument that offers outstanding feel, tone, and presence.
The guitar benefits from an excellent professional setup and plays effortlessly across the neck, with plenty of fret life remaining. There are some light cosmetic marks and signs of use, entirely consistent with a carefully looked-after instrument of this age.
Built to 2004 Gibson Custom Shop specifications, this model features a mahogany body with a carved flame maple cap, a long neck tenon, and a mahogany neck with a bound ebony fingerboard and block inlays. The multiple-bound “open book” headstock shows attractive natural ageing, adding to the overall character.
Electronics consist of a factory-fitted pair of Gibson Custom Shop PAF-style humbuckers (’57 Classic and ’57 Classic Plus), famouse for delivering a rich, articulate voice with excellent clarity. Expect warm, rounded lows, a strong and focused midrange, and a smooth, singing top end that excels for blues, classic rock, and expressive lead work, while still responding beautifully to dynamic playing and volume control adjustments.
The hardware is in very good order throughout. The back of the neck was professionally refinished some years ago; this has been carried out to a very high standard and results in an exceptionally smooth, comfortable feel in the hand, with no impact on playability or tone.
