This is a very nice example of a mid-1960s Epiphone FT-79 Texan acoustic flat-top, and it is in remarkable condition for its age. It comes with its original case and even includes a period-correct Epiphone sales brochure, which is a wonderful bonus for collectors and enthusiasts of vintage Epiphone history.
There are no cracks, and the action is comfortable and very playable. We believe the bridge plate was replaced at some point, but we cannot see evidence of any other repairs. The edge of the bridge plate is lifting slightly but structurally it is solid, and it plays exactly as a good Texan should.
The sunburst finish is in exceptional condition—rich, vibrant, and beautifully preserved, with minimal lacquer checking and hardly any fading. The frets show only mild wear and still have plenty of life left.
There is a small area of lacquer delamination along the treble-side edge of the fingerboard, but it is smooth under the hand and does not affect playability. The neck has a slim C profile, making it comfortable for both flat-picking and fingerstyle work.
Construction follows the classic Texan blueprint: a solid spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides, producing the warm, airy, and articulate sound that made these guitars famous. The long 25.5" scale gives the Texan its signature snap and clarity, adding punch to the low end and definition to the mids.
The 16 1/4" body width and 4 7/8" depth create a balanced, resonant acoustic voice that records beautifully and holds its place in a mix without effort.
Epiphone Texans are closely associated with iconic players such as Paul McCartney, who wrote and recorded numerous Beatles classics on his mid-’60s FT-79. The Texan’s combination of warmth, projection, and responsiveness continues to make it a favourite among serious musicians who appreciate a vintage acoustic that delivers both character and practicality.
