Gibson SG Standard Walnut 1970`s

This is an amazing early 70`s Gibson SG Standard Walnut. Lightweight top tail with block inlays on Rosewood.

A lovely slim neck and soft easy playing action. The top nut is just 40mm, so if you like slinky necks this one is for you.

The bridge pickup has been changed for a Seymour Duncan JB, but the original T Bucker  (PAT No 2737842 on both neck and bridge) is included with the guitar. The neck pickup reads 7.8k, the original bridge pickup reads 8.2k. The JB sounds great in the bridge position so we have left it installed. The pickup covers have been removed in the past, this was often done as it was thought that it improved the pickups' output. We think that this guitar may have originally had a Lyre tailpiece fitted and it was then converted to a stop tail. 

The serial number is 964049 with "Made in USA" stamped below it. The pots date 1971 on the two that are not obscured by solder. 

No breaks and aside from the very old replacement machine heads the only other thing to note is what looks like a professional repair to cover additional strap buttons that were fitted in the past.

This guitar is a tone monster, it really sounds good plugged into a valve amp. Very impressive.

The icing on the cake is that it has the original Gibson case also in very good condition.
