PRODUCT DETAILS
Up for sale is a 1985 Fender Boxer Series Stratocaster, finished in classic Black and built during one of the most celebrated periods of Fender Japan production. The Boxer Series was Fender's answer to the high-performance guitars of the mid-'80s, combining traditional Fender DNA with more modern, player-focused features. Today, these instruments have become increasingly sought after thanks to their excellent craftsmanship, unique specifications, and undeniable vintage appeal.
This example is in Very Good condition and has clearly spent its life doing what great guitars are meant to do, being played. As such, it displays a healthy amount of honest cosmetic wear throughout. There is a collection of scuffs, scratches, chips, and dings around the body, along with visible wear to the hardware that is consistent with decades of use. The fretboard also exhibits heavy play wear, adding to the guitar's unmistakably broken-in feel and vintage character.
A number of the original components have been replaced over the years, including the pickguard, locking nut, and 5-way switch, and the original parts are unfortunately not included in the sale. At one point the control cavities were professionally shielded, though this has since been removed. Despite these changes, the guitar remains a superb player and retains all the charm that makes these Japanese-made Boxers so desirable.
The frets are in great condition, with plenty of life remaining and no issues affecting performance. The original nut is still installed and functioning perfectly well, although it may benefit from replacement at some point in the future as part of routine maintenance. For now, however, it presents no issues and the guitar plays beautifully as it sits.
What immediately stands out about this instrument is the feel. The neck has developed that wonderfully comfortable, played-in character that only comes with decades of use. The action is low and effortless, making the guitar incredibly enjoyable to play. Acoustically, it is lively and resonant, with excellent sustain and responsiveness. Plugged in, it delivers all the punch, clarity, and character that have made vintage Japanese Fenders such a favourite among players and collectors alike.
This is not a museum piece, it is a genuine player's guitar with nearly four decades of history behind it. The cosmetic wear tells a story, while the playability and tone remind you exactly why instruments like this become lifelong favourites.
The guitar comes complete with an aftermarket hard case, providing excellent protection for storage and transport.
A wonderfully broken-in 1985 Fender Boxer Series Stratocaster with exceptional playability, glorious resonance, and all the character you'd hope to find in a vintage Japanese Fender. Honest wear, fantastic feel, and inspiring tone make this a guitar that's ready for many more years of music-making.
