Gibson Midtown Custom Sunburst 2013

Up for sale is a 2013 Gibson Midtown Custom in classic Sunburst, a seriously underrated Gibson model that blends semi-hollow warmth, Custom-level appointments, and modern playability into one incredibly versatile instrument. Built in the USA during a period when Gibson was experimenting with fresh takes on their traditional designs, the Midtown Custom offers a unique feel and tonal character that stands apart from the usual ES line-up while still delivering unmistakable Gibson personality.

This example is in excellent condition and has aged beautifully over the years. There are some signs of normal wear and natural ageing throughout, along with some particularly attractive finish checking across the top that adds a ton of vintage-inspired character and visual appeal. The checking looks fantastic against the Sunburst finish and gives the guitar an organically broken-in aesthetic that fits the instrument perfectly. Overall, it remains extremely clean and very well preserved.

The Midtown Custom features a chambered semi-hollow construction that gives the guitar impressive resonance and airiness while still maintaining the sustain and punch expected from a solid-body Gibson. The result is a lively, dynamic instrument that feels responsive and inspiring in hand whether played clean or pushed through an overdriven amp.

The neck feels smooth and comfortable with excellent upper fret access, and the fretwork remains in great shape with plenty of life left. The guitar plays cleanly up and down the board with a fast, effortless feel that works beautifully across a wide range of styles.

Tonally, this guitar covers an impressive amount of ground. The humbuckers deliver warm, articulate cleans, thick midrange response, and rich sustain with enough clarity to retain note separation even under gain. It excels at blues, classic rock, jazz, indie, and alternative styles while offering a unique tonal flavour somewhere between a Les Paul, ES-335, and a fully chambered modern Gibson design.

Visually, the Midtown Custom stands out with its elegant binding, upscale appointments, and refined semi-hollow styling. It has a classy, slightly modernised Gibson aesthetic that feels both familiar and distinct at the same time.
