A stunning nod to one of Gibson’s most celebrated eras, this 2022 Custom Shop ’64 ES-335 Reissue arrives in VOS Heather Poly, offering a slightly off-the-beaten-path take on a timeless semi-hollow design. The finish has a subtle, softly aged character straight from the factory, giving it that gently broken-in look and feel without crossing into heavy relic territory.
Built with a laminated maple body and a solid center block, this instrument delivers everything you’d expect from a great 335, resonant, balanced, and incredibly versatile. There’s a woody warmth underpinning the tone, paired with clear, singing highs and a focused low end that holds together beautifully under gain. It transitions effortlessly from clean, articulate passages to rich overdrive, retaining note definition and harmonic complexity throughout.
The neck profile is true to the period, offering a comfortable, slightly rounded feel that fills the hand just right without ever feeling cumbersome. Paired with a smooth-playing fingerboard and excellent fretwork, it encourages expressive playing across the entire register. The Custom Shop attention to detail is evident throughout, from the binding work to the overall fit and finish.
Condition is excellent, with next to no visible wear to speak of. It presents as a very lightly handled example, clearly well cared for since new.
It comes complete with its original case along with all accompanying case candy, making it a fully intact package for players and collectors alike. A refined, beautifully voiced 335 that captures the spirit of the mid-’60s while offering the reliability and consistency of a modern Custom Shop build.
