Washburn J-600 Vintage Aged Matte Sunburst (Modified) 2011

Up for sale is a particularly intriguing 2011 Washburn J-600, finished in a striking Vintage Aged Matte Sunburst and presenting as one of the more unusual instruments we've had through the shop in recent memory. Following extensive research, we have been unable to find another example matching this exact specification, leading us to believe that this guitar is either a heavily modified standard production model or potentially a very limited edition variant with little documented information available.

Whatever its origins, the result is a visually stunning and exceptionally playable hollow-body that has developed a character entirely its own.

This example is in Excellent condition, with the guitar showing only light signs of use beyond the modifications and cosmetic alterations that contribute to its unique appearance. The frets are in excellent shape, the neck feels superb, and the instrument plays beautifully throughout the register.

Several components appear to have been changed from the original factory specification. The bridge has been upgraded to an aftermarket adjustable bridge, while the tailpiece, control knobs, and pickguard are also believed to have been replaced at some point during the guitar's life. These changes complement the instrument's aesthetic remarkably well and contribute to its distinctive vintage-inspired appearance.

Perhaps the most noticeable feature is the guitar's road-worn style finish treatment. The aged matte sunburst appearance and relic-style wear patterns appear to have been applied after leaving the factory, creating a convincing vintage look that suits the instrument's classic hollow-body design exceptionally well. The finish work gives the guitar the appearance of a well-loved vintage archtop while retaining the reliability and playability of a much newer instrument.

Tonally, the J-600 delivers exactly what you would hope for from a quality hollow-body. It offers a warm, open acoustic voice with excellent resonance and a rich midrange character. Plugged in, it produces smooth cleans, woody jazz tones, and articulate overdriven sounds with plenty of depth and harmonic complexity. The guitar feels lively in the hands, responding beautifully to both delicate touch and more aggressive playing styles.
