A genuine original from the golden era of Marshall, this 1986 JCM-800 2203 MkII Lead remains one of the most iconic high-gain amplifiers ever produced. Presented here in excellent condition, with original tolex in very good order and clear signs of careful ownership throughout its life.

The amp has been fully checked over in-house and is operating exactly as it should. Aside from two replacement pots and routine maintenance over the years, it appears largely unmolested—always something to look for with these. It’s a solid, honest example that hasn’t been heavily modified or pushed beyond its limits.

Based on Marshall’s classic single-channel 100-watt platform, the 2203 features a straightforward control layout—preamp gain, master volume, three-band EQ, and presence—powered by a quartet of EL34 valves. While this is an original 1986 build, its design and core specification continue to define Marshall’s modern lineup well into 2025, a testament to just how right they got it the first time.

Tonally, the 2203 is all about authority, punch, and immediacy. There’s a tight, aggressive low end, a forward, cutting midrange, and a crisp, biting top that gives it that unmistakable British voice. The preamp gain delivers raw, articulate crunch rather than saturated compression—this is an amp that rewards picking dynamics and technique.
