Gibson The "V" CMT Floyd Rose 1981 Cherry Sunburst

Gibson The "V" had a very short production run of just 3 years. Beautiful bound curly maple cap in a rich cherry sunburst finish, this guitar is a featherweight 6.87Ib. Three-piece neck with volute, Ebony fingerboard with perfect frets and lovely soft action. Loaded with a pair of Gibson original "Dirty Fingers" humbuckers reading a healthy 16.33 neck and 15.56 from the bridge.

There is an interesting history behind this instrument. This guitar first came to us in the mid-1980s when our customer John wanted advice on fitting a Floyd Rose tremolo system to it as he was a big fan of the mighty Eddie Van Halen. We told him that there was only one place to get this work done and that was in the workshop of Chandler Guitars in London which is where we helped him ship it.

When it came back from them I can still remember the excitement when we got it out of the case and fired it up. And now today, in 2021, while taking the photos and lifting the tremolo cover to reveal such exquisite routing it nearly brought a tear to my eye! This is a professional job from one of the most respected workshops in the UK. From memory, Chandlers was also the only store in the UK that you could buy these original Floyd Rose systems from.

John went out to master the Floyd system and I watched this guitar perform with him on stage. He is one of my favourite Welsh guitar players and he could make that V fly.

After some years he traded it in and I sold it to another close friend who owned it until recently when it came back to us.

And here it is, with us again and looking for a new home!
