Ovation Glen Campbell Artist 1627-4 Acoustic-Electric β Late 1970s β Natural β USA Made
A wonderful example of a late-1970s Ovation Glen Campbell Artist Model 1627-4, one of the most iconic acoustic-electric guitars produced during Ovation's golden era in New Hartford, Connecticut.
Originally introduced as Ovation's first artist signature model, the Glen Campbell 1627-4 was designed to meet the demands of professional performers, combining Ovation's innovative Lyrachord bowl construction with premium tonewoods and onboard electronics. The result is a guitar with excellent projection, superb plugged-in performance, and the unmistakable sound that helped define countless recordings and live performances throughout the 1970s and beyond.

Condition
This instrument remains in overall good condition for its age and is a lovely vintage player's guitar.
The top displays several finish cracks consistent with age and long-term ownership. No structural issues; the Spruce top is sound, and we have checked it internally. These appear to be within the finish and are typical of many vintage Ovations from this period.
A previous owner fitted a Roland GK hex pickup system. The pickup itself has since been removed, although the slim mounting plate remains installed in front of the bridge. This does not affect the functionality of the guitar's original Ovation pickup system.
The frets remain in good condition with plenty of life remaining, and the guitar plays well throughout the fingerboard. We would describe the action as medium, offering a comfortable balance between ease of play and strong acoustic response.
As expected on a guitar approaching fifty years of age, there are signs of general use together with some tarnishing and wear to the gold-plated hardware.
The original Ovation pickup is functioning correctly and delivers the clear, articulate amplified tone for which these vintage models are so highly regarded.
