Fender Stratocaster with Maple Fretboard 1979 - Black Re-Finish

This is a 1979–80 Fender Stratocaster, refinished many years ago in black.

It features a fantastic slim “C” flame maple neck that is particularly distinctive, paired with the large headstock, “bullet” truss rod and three-bolt neck plate typical of the period.

This is a very honest player-grade example. From what we can see, it was originally finished in Olympic White. Maintenance over the decades has included a refret, replacement volume pot, upgraded tremolo block, brass top nut and brass saddles.

Cosmetically, it shows numerous small marks, dings and light chips to the finish — entirely in keeping with a well-used 46-year-old instrument.

The pickups are the original “grey bottom” single coils and they sound superb. Output readings are:

Neck: 5.60k
Middle: 5.79k
Bridge: 7.20k

The bridge is typically the hotter unit, delivering excellent drive and presence while retaining classic late-’70s Strat character.

With its alder body, this example weighs in at a substantial 10.49lb — not uncommon for instruments from this era and very much in line with the period. The benefit of this added mass is impressive sustain, a defined low end and clear, ringing harmonics.

The guitar has been through our workshop and has received a full professional setup. It plays very well, with a comfortable, easy action. Nut width is 41mm.
