This is a 1979–80 Fender Hardtail Stratocaster, weighing just 7.36 lb and finished in Tobacco Sunburst. It also comes complete with its original Fender embossed moulded case.
This guitar remains in very original condition and shows the honest signs of use you would expect from a late 1970s instrument. There are some small chips, dings, and age-related marks to the finish, all consistent with a well-played vintage Stratocaster. There is only minor fret wear, and the guitar currently has a great setup with very comfortable playability.
Built to Fender’s late-1970s factory specification, this Stratocaster features a solid alder body with the classic hardtail bridge configuration, which was produced in much smaller numbers than the standard tremolo models. The hardtail design offers increased tuning stability and a slightly more direct transfer of string vibration into the body.
The maple neck has the comfortable late-70s Fender profile and pairs beautifully with the body, giving the guitar a lively and resonant acoustic character. Electronics remain mainly original, including the sought-after grey bottom single-coil pickups and the original five-way blade selector switch. The wiring has been sensibly configured so that the tone control also works on the bridge pickup, which is a very useful and popular feature. The plastic covers and switch tip have been swapped for White, which looks very cool, and the originals are sold with the guitar.
Tonally, this Stratocaster delivers everything you would hope for from a great late-70s example. The grey bottom pickups provide a bright, articulate voice with plenty of clarity and chime. The neck pickup is warm and rounded while retaining definition, the middle pickup offers classic Strat sparkle, and the bridge pickup has plenty of bite and presence without becoming harsh. The hardtail construction adds a little extra focus and sustain, giving the guitar a slightly firmer low end and excellent note definition.
Overall, this is a very honest and great-playing vintage Stratocaster that captures the character and tone of the late 1970s Fender era, with the added appeal of the rarer hardtail configuration.
