Fender 1968 Stratocaster Black Re-finish

This is a wonderful Hendrix era Fender 1968 Stratocaster which has been refinished in a light relic black nitrocellulose. Same owner for the past 35 years and is thought to have started its life in a White finish.

It has an absolutely exceptional neck to play, with nice figuring on the Rosewood fingerboard, the pearloid position markers are also in good shape.

The frets are in good order and have been professionally dressed in our workshop. They have almost certainly been replaced at some point. The top nut is cut perfectly and old, but possibly not as old as the guitar.

It's a real “player” perfectly set up with a very nice action and a good acoustic “ring”. The tone is pure late 1960`s Strat, a wonderful instrument in every way.

Original pickups, pick guard and control knobs. The pickups have hand written identification, 9-30-68 PK. Original CTS pots which to be fair are a bit scratchy but serviceable. The date stamps on the two tone pots are correct, the volume pots markings are not visible, but I have no reason to believe that its not from the same period. Original Green square “Chicklet” tone capacitors. Apparently they were only fitted to 68 Stratocasters. The replaced wiring is professional grade with lead solder.

The bridge assembly is a Gotoh relic unit. The machine heads string tree etc are all original and function correctly.

The guitar has the rarer “13” stamp neck (denoting “Stratocaster” It has a regular neck B stamp. It reads 13 MAR 68 B.

The five way selector is obviously not original but is is an old genuine Fender part. The back plate and tremolo arm are also non original.

You could pay a lot more for a modern Fender master built custom shop stratocaster but it would be hard to match this original Fullerton factory tone and feel.
