A seriously cool example of Fender Japan craftsmanship here, this 1997 MIJ ST-62DEX2 Stratocaster Reissue in 3-Colour Sunburst is the kind of guitar that instantly feels broken-in and inspiring the moment you pick it up. Built during the golden era of Fujigen production, this one delivers all the vintage Strat charm you’d expect, paired with the impeccable build quality that made these Japanese reissues so sought after.
For the most part, the guitar is in superb shape for its age and has clearly been well cared for throughout its life. It does show a handful of honest cosmetic dings and marks from use over the years, the most noticeable being a ding on the top of the body just beneath the tremolo. None of the wear affects the feel or playability whatsoever, and it all adds to the character in a way that suits the instrument perfectly.
At some stage it has been professionally re-fretted with super jumbo fret wire, giving it an effortlessly playable feel with plenty of life left ahead of it. The larger frets make bends smooth and controlled while adding a slightly more modern playing experience without taking away from the guitar’s vintage-inspired vibe.
