1977 Guild G-37 Dreadnought – Blond
Westerly, Rhode Island USA
A superb example of a late-1970s Guild G-37 Dreadnought from the original Westerly, Rhode Island factory, complete with its original hard case. This era is widely regarded as a high point in Guild’s acoustic production, known for consistency, durability and exceptional tone.
Tonally, this guitar has matured beautifully. The sound is open and rich, with a tight, controlled bass response, strong midrange presence and clear, ringing trebles. It excels at flatpicking, with outstanding projection and note separation, while still responding well to a firm fingerstyle attack. And yes, we have a lefty acoustic player here at Motomusic who was very impressed with its tonal characteristics of this vintage acoustic.
Constructed to original 1970s Guild factory specifications, it features a solid spruce top paired with select Maple back and sides, a five piece Maple/Walnut neck, and a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The top nut is 43mm. The long 25 5/8" scale length and traditional dreadnought style body deliver headroom and clarity in abundance.
Condition
Excellent for the year. Cosmetically very good, showing only a few light marks and minor dings consistent with careful use. There is some finish wear around the edge of the soundhole, typical for a played vintage acoustic. Overall, it presents as a well-cared-for instrument rather than a case queen. The original machin heads function perfectly and we can see no evedence of any breaks or repairs.
Playability
The frets are in very good order, nicely crowned and polished. The saddle is cut fairly low, and the action is best described as medium-low, measuring approximately 2.5mm on the low E string at the 12th fret. Comfortable and responsive across the fingerboard. It's very nice to play.
Includes original hard case.
A fine, honest vintage Guild for the serious acoustic player seeking a genuine 1970s Westerly-built dreadnought with maturity, power and classic American tone.
