Up for sale is a 2021 Gibson Custom Shop '63 SG Special Reissue Lightning Bar VOS in a killer TV Yellow finish, presented in excellent condition and complete with its original hard case and full case candy. This is Custom Shop territory, and it shows in every detail, from the feel in your hands to the way it responds the second you plug in.

This model is a historically accurate recreation of the early ’60s SG Special, built with a solid mahogany body and neck, long tenon construction, and a nitrocellulose VOS finish that gives it that broken-in look and feel straight out of the case. It’s not relic’d for effect, it’s subtly aged to feel like a well-kept vintage instrument that’s already lived a life.

Tonally, this is where things get addictive. The pair of Custom Shop P-90 soapbars deliver everything you want from this platform, raw, immediate attack, woody midrange, and a clarity that cuts without ever getting harsh. Clean tones have that unmistakable chime and bite, while pushing it into overdrive brings out a snarling, harmonically rich voice that feels alive under your fingers. It’s simple on paper, but incredibly expressive in practice.

The lightning bar wraparound bridge is part of the magic here. It keeps the string path direct and resonant, contributing to that fast, percussive response that SG Specials are known for. There’s a certain immediacy to the way notes jump off the fretboard, no excess, no softness, just pure connection between player and instrument.

The neck profile sits right in that comfortable late-’50s/early-’60s zone, substantial enough to feel solid, but fast and intuitive as you move up the board. Paired with the 24.75" scale and rosewood fingerboard, it strikes that balance between familiarity and inspiration that makes you keep playing longer than you planned.

And then there’s the look. TV Yellow on an SG Special just works. It’s understated but unmistakable, vintage without feeling fragile, and it stands out in a sea of more predictable finishes. Combined with the small guard, dot inlays, and stripped-back aesthetic, it feels purpose-built rather than overdesigned.

Condition is excellent. It’s been clearly well cared for, fully functional, and presents cleanly with only minimal signs of use. Frets, hardware, and electronics are all exactly as they should be. Included is the original Gibson Custom Shop hard case along with the full case candy and certificate of authenticity, completing the package.

This is one of those guitars that doesn’t rely on complexity to impress. Two pickups, a slab of mahogany, and decades of refinement behind it. Plug in, and it immediately makes sense.
